Scotland day 8

We went for a last walk around the bay with the dogs before heading off for home. We stopped at Westmorland Services to pick up some lunch and other supplies. The run home was fine and we made good time. Everything in the garden has survived the week, with thanks to our friends up the…

Scotland day 7

We walked from the cottage along the coast and through the woods to the north. This time we found the gravestone with skull and crossbones in the graveyard at the derelict Senwick Church. We had a break on Senwick Bay beach and had our lunch on Goat Well Bay beach. We made it as far…

Scotland day 6

We took a drive to the Mull of Galloway, which is the most southerly point in Scotland. The journey was a but tedious with all the lorries heading to Stranraer along the A75 limited to 40mph. It was worth it once we got to the Mull. There is one of Stephenson’s lighthouses and an RSPB…

Scotland day 5

It rained. All day. We took the dogs out for a brief walk along the road and all got wet. We decided to head out for tea. We tried the Borgue Hotel – resistance was not required and it turned out to be futile – the pub behind the hotel was closed. We decided to…

Scotland day 4

We drove to the parking near to Loch Ken Holiday Park. On the opposite side of the road is a short footpath up to a Red Kite viewing station. There were a few birds around, but no kites. We continued on the path to Glenlaggan Wood on which there were plenty of small birds and…

Scotland day 3

We decided to walk from the cottage again, but this time heading in the opposite direction along the coast. We followed the track, which is also a marked footpath, around Balmangan Bar. We had a look around the remains of the Manse and graveyard, though we missed the gravestone with skull and crossbones. We walked…

Scotland day 2

We walked from the cottage around the coastal path. None of the paths are marked on the OS maps, so the printout in the cottage from the Dumfries and Galloway council website came in handy. We circled round Meikle Ross and then round the Mull of Ross to Brighouse Bay where we ate our picnic…

Scotland day 1

We had a clear run from Bredbury to Creel Cottage at the Ross Bay Retreat. We had lunch at the Westmorland services en route.  We had tea at the cottage and took a short walk around Ross Bay and onto to hill above Blackstone. The following is a test of NextGEN gallery.
