Short trip

A short sail from Portland along the coast to Anvil Point. We were going to anchor in Chapman’s Pool, but finding the water shallow and the anchor switch having broken we abandoned that idea. Dad and I repaired the anchor switch on the move and then anchored up in Mupe. We had tea there and…

Brownsea and back to Portland

A walk around Brownsea Island in the morning and then sail back to Portland. The sail back was into the wind in fairly rough seas and so we motor sailed the whole way. Part way back three dolphins joined us for a short period of time and played in the waves off the port side.

Day 10 – journey home

We left the log cabin at about 10:20am. We had an easy journey home stopping at The Lion Hotel in Llandinam for an excellent 2-course Sunday lunch (prawn cocktail, chicken liver pate, roast leg of lamb, roast beef). We stopped off at Morrisons in Bredbury for shopping before getting home at about 4:30pm. In total…

Day 9 – Felindre

We made up a packed lunch and drove to Aber Mawr beach. The weather wasn’t brilliant so we walked inland through the shelter of Pen-yr-allt Wood and then back to the beach via Broom Wood. We ate our picnic at the sheltered western end of the beach. We then drove down to Solva to have…

Day 8 – Felindre

Having worn out the dogs – literally with Lexi ending up with a couple of sores on her pads – we decided to have an easier day with a bit less walking. So we drove to Fishguard Lower Town and ambled around the harbour. We had crab sandwiches for lunch at the sailing club. We…

Day 7 – Felindre

We walked east from the cabin and joined the coastal path at Trefin mill. We walked east along the coastal path, stopping to eat our picnic lunch at a small beach to the west of Abercastle and then sitting for a while on Pwllstrodur beach. It was another very hot and sunny day where we…

Day 6 – Felindre

We walked from the cabin down to Porthgain, then south along the coastal path to close to Ogof Simdde and back. We got back to Portgain at about 5pm and found a table outside at the Sloop Inn to have a very nice evening meal in the sunshine.

Day 5 – Felindre

The weather was better today and so we decided to take the short drive to the city of St Davids (the smallest city in Britain with a population of just over 1,600). We had a wander around the outside of the Cathedral and the ruin of The Bishops Palace. We had lunch at the Grove…

Day 4 – Felindre

It rained all day apart from a 20 minute respite when we managed to take the dogs for a short walk along the track past Felindre House. We spent the day in the log cabin and caught up on some reading. We cooked dinner at the cabin too.
